Westminster Bridge Road Decorative Lighting Projects

PWLC Projects was commissioned to project manage a decorative lighting project under the Westminster Bridge underpass and Carlisle Lane tunnel in Waterloo. We led a team of consultants to deliver a concept and detailed design of decorative lighting under the Westminster Bridge Road tunnel and Carlisle Lane tunnel. The designs were ‘co-produced’ with various community groups in the local area including pupils from a local secondary school. PWLC also oversaw the installation of these lighting projects which was hugely challenging due to the volumes of road traffic, particularly on Westminster Bridge Road. A planning application and advertising consent was required and agreement between Network Rail, London and Continental Railways and London Borough of Lambeth was co-ordinated by PWLC. The planning application required a flexible condition to allow the Lambeth Council and the local Business Improvement District, We Are Waterloo maximum flexibility to be able to curate light artwork that could be displayed using a series of 50 Gobo projectors.
This project was delivered in January 2018 with the planning application allowing full flexibility for art work to be curated and changed periodically throughout the year. Images of final lighting scheme:
Oxford Street and Bond Street Christmas Lights

PWLC Projects are proud to have been able to play a significant part of one of the world’s most iconic festive lighting displays for the past 5 years – the Oxford Street and Bond Street Christmas Lights! We have been privileged enough to be able to provide an end-to-end service helping to project manage a multi-sensory lighting display from its early design stages to its annual switch on. We oversee the design process of new displays, that must be fun, bring joy and create that all important festive feeling. However, we are also responsible for ensuring that the structural design is suitable for existing infrastructure, legal agreements between New West End Company and property owners / tenants are in place and executed and that any regulatory applications such as planning permission and advertising consent are sorted out far in advance of any installation work being carried out.
Our team is also responsible for overseeing the installation of the lights, a highly complex rigging operation that needs to be undertaken out of hours and under tightly prescribed traffic management arrangements.
